He was ophthalmic trained in Oxford and Moorfields Eye Hospital and glaucoma fellowship trained in University California San Diego under Professor Robert Weinreb.
He leads a research team with topics that include epidemiology of eye disease, in particular glaucoma, glaucoma imaging and modalities to detect progression, primary angle closure glaucoma, glaucoma care pathway and electronic patient record developments. He is Chief Investigator/PI on >10 clinical trials involving these specialty areas and has published over 80 publications and co-authored 6 books.
He is Vice Chair of the National Institute for Health Research Ophthalmology Specialty Group and coordinates the Global Burden of Disease Study’s Vision Loss Expert group.
