I am Rashed Mustafa, a 33-years old ophthalmologist from Jordan. I heard about ESASO from my friend 2 years ago when I was a general ophthalmologist looking for a vitreoretinal fellowship position. He recommended ESASO as the most prestigious and the best organization in this field. I applied for the one-year fellowship program and I was interviewed in Lugano after which I was fortunate to get the position in the medical university of Lublin, Lublin, Poland.
During this fellowship, I have acquired an enormous amount of medical knowledge, surgical experience, and exposed to a cutting edge technology in the field. The hospital is equipped with high tech up to date devices and instruments, the team work spirit was amazing and one can see the close collaboration between anterior segment and posterior segments surgeons which leads to the best surgical outcome for the patients. I had the pleasure to learn from best of the best and had a great opportunity to appreciate the importance of research and to be co-author in many published articles, to participate in courses and wet labs, to attend prestigious congresses and had the honor to be a speaker in some of them. I was also involved in the teaching process for medical students and ophthalmology residents. Besides, I was privileged to meet some international figures who are well-known in their area of expertise.
I was lucky to meet amazing friends and great mentors, who were eager to teach and have created an attitude in my personality to work hard, to be innovative and to pursue self-learning. In addition, i was pleased to live in a European culture for one-year, during which i learnt a lot about people in this area in the world closely.
I am going back to Jordan to collaborate with my colleagues to treat patients, to share the experience with my peers and to teach the younger doctors. This experience was unbelievably worth living and sharing; it would have been impossible to attain without ESASO generous support.
