Associate Professor in Ophthalmology, University of Ljubljana Medical Faculty and Head of Medical Retina Unit, Eye Hospital of University Medical Center Ljubljana


Polona Jaki Mekjavić is a medical retina specialist in the University Clinical Centre Ljubljana Eye Hospital, and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Ljubljana Medical Faculty. She received her medical degree in 1990 and in 1996 specialised in Ophthalmology at the University of Ljubljana. Important milestones in her career include clinical visits to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (UK), Helsinki University Hospital (HUS, Finland) and John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford (UK).

Her major clinical and research interests include diagnostic and treatment of age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, myopia and central serous chorioretinopathy.

She has organised numerous national and international educational and training workshops for ophthalmologists. She is also a member of the examining committee of the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO examiner), President of the Slovene Medical Retina Society and Vice-President of the international Fluorescein Angiography Club (iFAN).
