• Prof. Dr. S Natarajan done his national duty by doing surgeries of the people with eye injuries due to pellets in Kashmir. Dr. Natarajan performed more than 200 complicated VR surgeries till date & in 2 ½ days he performed record 47 VR surgeries continuously which is itself a noble thing for humanity.

Dr. S. Natarajan is a 3rd generation ophthalmologist. He is internationally renowned Vitreo-retinal surgeon since 1984 from Sankara Nethralaya days.He established the Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital as an international centre for Vitreo Retinal Surgery & Research . He has performed more than 27000 exclusive Vitreo-retinal surgeries. He trained 64 Vitreo-retinal surgeons from India & all over the world. He has 999 scientific presentations at National and International level, 104 publications in journals and 5 chapters in books till 20th June 2016. He is the most invited Teaching faculty in the world. He conducted several academic program all over the world. He performed several live surgeries all over the world. He is an active member of AIOS Since 1984. He has taken up assignment as the Regional Managing Editor: EyeWorld Asia Pacific (Indian edition) a News Magazine of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) . He is elected twice as Chairman –Scientific Committee of All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS), the largest Eye Doctor’s Society in India comprising more than 17,000 members.

He established a non-profitable Public Charitable Trust – ADITYA JYOT FOUNDATION FOR TWINKLING LITTLE EYES – Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes, a not-for-profit body, established in 2005; was born out of the desire expressed by Dr A P J Abdul Kalam (former President of India) on his visit to Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital to put a twinkle in the eyes of the visually impaired. The Foundation runs outreach programs in rural and urban slums and tribal areas that strives to provide quality eye care for the underprivileged. Aditya Jyot Diabetic Retinopathy Urban Mumbai Slum Study (AJ- DRUMSS) which is funded by the World Diabetic Federation and Sir Dorabji Tata trust grant. This is an ongoing population-based cross sectional study conducted to create awareness for early detection and intervention methods to estimate the prevalence and study the risk factors associated with diabetic retinopathy (DR) in Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Also, genetic factors are playing important role in the progression of diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients. Hence, our focus is to understand the genetic profile of diabetic patients to prevent the burden of preventable blindness. Through our project we have evaluated prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in urban slums of Mumbai.
Screened over 50,000 people in Diabetic Retinopathy camps ,More than 58,000 children screened in school screening programs, 1, 70, 000 households covered in door to door eye awareness camps in slums , About 5000 free cataracts surgeries performed .
The Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Eyes (AJFTLE) is committed to reduce both avoidable and unavoidable blindness. Through our foundation we have established R&D Unit- “Aditya Jyot Research in Vision and Ophthalmology”.
Our vision is to establish cutting edge research and technology to understand the bio-mechanism of eye diseases and to discover novel therapeutic approaches including regenerative medicine
Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan started “Aditya Jyot Prof Dr.N.S.Sundaram Genetic Clinic”, The clinic is first of its kind in Maharashtra and the third in India. I fondly remember my father Prof Dr.N.S.Sundaram on his birthday i.e, 19th January as he started a genetic clinic with Dr. G. Kumarmanickvel in GOH, Chennai way back in1984 and we dedicate the clinic to his memory. The clinic is committed to dedicate research in the field of Hereditary Eye Diseases.
