TOPOUZIS Fotis
Fotis Topouzis, MD is currently Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the A’ Department of Ophthalmology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is also Head and Founder of the Laboratory of Research and Clinical Applications in Ophthalmology at the same Department.
He received his MD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his PhD from the Democritus University of Thrace,Alexandroupolis,Greece. Dr Topouzis pursued residency training in Ophthalmology at theSaint-AntoineHospital,Paris,France, and theQuinze-VingtsNationalOphthalmologyHospital,Paris, where he also completed his clinical comprehensive ophthalmology fellowship. He received his glaucoma fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute,Los Angeles,USA.
Dr. Topouzis has received distinguished awards for his scientific work. He is chair of the Program Planning Committee of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) and Secretary of GlaucoGENE, a special interest group of the EGS. Also he is co-chair of the World Glaucoma Association Committee on Guidelines for Reporting and Publishing. He serves five medical journal editorial boards and as a reviewer for twenty one medical journals.
Dr Topouzis is especially interested in epidemiology and clinical and genetic research in ophthalmic diseases, with particular focus in glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. He is Principal Investigator of two large population-based studies (Thessaloniki Eye Study, EUREYE Study), and co-ordinator for the EGS GlaucoGENE project.
