The ESASO Foundation
15 years have already passed since we opened our first training center in Lugano: today, ESASO is a solid, developed, high-quality academic system that welcomes student from all around the world in strategically-positioned training centers in Europe and Asia, where to get access to the latest technologies and techniques.
Lugano
Now situated in front of the Ospedale regionale di Lugano, Sede Italiano, where the Ophthalmology department is situated, the new ESASO Training Centre is equipped with the latest surgical and diagnostic equipment, including microscopes, phacoemulsification systems, 3D, and vitreoretinal systems.
The courses held here are designed to provide participants with the latest knowledge and skills in ophthalmology, with a mix of theoretical lessons and hands-on exercises.
The programmes cover a wide range of topics, including cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, corneal surgery, glaucoma surgery, oculoplastics, and much more.
The ESASO Foundation Lugano Training Centre is located at Via agli Orti 20, Lugano, in the campus Hospital and just in front of the Ospedale Regionale Italiano building.
In order to support our development projects and bring high-quality education in disadvantaged countries, we are renting the ESASO Training Centre in Lugano is available for rent. The sum donated will help fund the SeeWorld Project.

Singapore
Singapore was chosen as the venue for the new Training Center for its well-developed academic system, its central location, and good infrastructure and facilities. It features state-of-the-art lecture facilities with specialised console tables that can be converted into wetlab workstations.
By the end of 2025, the Training Centre in Singapore had successfully conducted more than 25 modules in Medical & Surgical Retina, Uveitis and Glaucoma, as well as workshops on OCT.
Besides the programs conducted in Singapore city, the ESASO Foundation has also organised educational events in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hanoi.
The ESASO Foundation Board has appointed Dr. Adrian Koh as Executive Director Asia.
The Singapore Training Center is located at the Camden Medical Center, on Orchard Road.
Lublin
In 2021 The ESASO Foundation inaugurated a new Training Centre in Lublin, a perfect location thanks to its geographical position and its academic and educational profile.
The ESASO Foundation Training Centre in Lublin is located within the Medical Simulation Centre, whose mission is to improve medical qualifications with the use of simulation training. Trainees are given the chance to perform realistic exercises using advanced equipment, which allows them to improve their learning stage and get considerable benefits for future medical operations.
The ESASO Foundation introduced ophthalmology courses to what the MSC offered, with a particular focus on cataract treatments. Each ESASO course offers theoretical lessons and wet lab training, thus all lessons are highly interactive.
The ESASO Foundation Board has nominated Prof Robert Rejdak as Scientific Director.
ESASO Lublin Training Centre is located in Doktora Witolda Chodźki 4, Lublin, Poland.
Parma
2021 was also the year of the inauguration of the ESASO Foundation Training Center in Parma, within the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma.
The Centre is equipped with a classroom and a wet lab with workstations dedicated to surgical training in ophthalmology. The learning experience focuses on the evaluation of patients in a clinical setting.
The ESASO Board appointed Prof. Stefano Gandolfi as Scientific Director of the Campus in Parma.
ESASO Parma Training Centre is located at the University of Parma.
Timisoara
Thanks to the precious collaboration with the ESASO Faculty member Prof. Mihnea Munteanu, in 2026 the school extends its presence to south-eastern Europe with this brand new training centre.
The ESASO Training Centre in Romania is the 4th facility where ophthalmologists and eye health professionals are able to participate to the ESASO learning experiences, and elevate their skills with the unique mix of theoretical lessons and hands-on training, led by, as always, the world’s best names in the ophthalmic scientific divulgation.
The ESASO Foundation Board has nominated Prof Mihnea Munteanu as Scientific Director of the Training Centre.
